At Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility Ltd., our journey in the electric vehicle (EV) industry is not just about manufacturing; it’s about creating an ecosystem that fosters innovation, sustainability, and affordability. Since our inception in 2016, our mission has been clear—to develop a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India, akin to what exists globally.
We began with modest resources, importing parts to assemble our electric scooters. Today, we are proud to achieve 90% localization for our Joy e-bike range, which includes popular models like the Monster, Wolf, Glob, and Honeybee. Through reverse engineering chargers, controllers, and steel parts, and partnering with local suppliers for chassis and batteries, we have significantly reduced our dependency on imports.
Investing in the Future: Our 100-Acre Ecosystem
To further our mission, we have invested in a sprawling 100-acre land near our Vadodara facility. This land will host an extensive ancillary plant and a cell production facility, creating opportunities for manufacturers to set up their base through strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Joint Ventures (JVs). We will provide land, electricity, infrastructure, and manpower to support these partnerships.
“Our goal was to create an ecosystem for electric vehicles here, as globally, such systems already exist,” said our Chairman & Managing Director, Wardwizard, Yatin Gupte.
He added, “We were importing spare parts when we started. Now, our electric scooters have almost 90% localization. We started reverse engineering chargers, controllers, and steel parts, among others. Our chassis come from major suppliers in Maharashtra who also make frames for Bajaj and TVS Motor Co.”
Collaboration for Innovation
We have already garnered interest from steel manufacturers, circuit designers, and other innovators who are eager to collaborate with us. These partnerships will enable the production of circuits, controllers, and wiring harnesses locally.
“Our goal with the ancillary plant is to reduce other manufacturers’ dependence on imports and have direct production here,” our Chairman & Managing Director, Yatin Gupte, explained.
We are also in talks with lithium cell manufacturers to establish a base in India. This move has the potential to revolutionize EV affordability by controlling battery prices. “If we achieve this, EVs will see a reduction in price, and in the next two years, they will be more affordable than ICE vehicles,” he said.
Reducing Costs and Ensuring Quality
Our analysis reveals that over 40 EV components are cheaper to manufacture locally than to import, considering logistics, taxes, and time. By localizing production, we can ensure cost savings for manufacturers and better pricing for customers.
Quality is another critical focus. With a localized supply chain, we can maintain strict quality control, addressing issues like the safety of lithium cells—a factor linked to EV fires globally. “The ability to oversee the quality of components locally is crucial to ensuring safe and reliable EVs,” emphasized our Chairman & Managing Director, Yatin Gupte.
Expanding Our Portfolio
The new ancillary plant will support the production of low-speed scooters, high-speed two-wheelers, and electric three-wheelers as we expand our portfolio. These investments, totaling approximately ₹1,000 crore, reflect our commitment to driving the EV revolution.
“The first phase of this project involves an investment of ₹200 crore, which will be completed by October this year. An additional ₹350 crore will be allocated to battery manufacturing,” shared our Chairman & Managing Director, Yatin Gupte. He further noted, “This ancillary business will not cater to Joy e-bikes alone but also to the broader market.”
A Vision for Affordable and Sustainable Mobility
At Wardwizard, we believe in empowering the EV industry with the resources it needs to thrive. By fostering collaboration, reducing costs, and maintaining stringent quality standards, we aim to make electric mobility a reality for everyone.
This is not just our journey; it’s a collective mission to create a greener, more sustainable future. We are proud to lead this charge and invite partners, innovators, and stakeholders to join us in transforming the EV landscape in India and beyond.
